Many Americans know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – this is thanks to years of nationwide advocacy campaigns and educational programs. In addition, seek more people are learning that September is annual Prostate Cancer awareness month.
While these two awareness months have achieved enormous success through initiatives like pink ribbon campaigns, drug the core idea behind cancer awareness months is encouraging person-to-person communications among patients, search family members, physicians and other health care professionals to increase awareness about treatment options, family cancer history and the importance of early detection.
Yet all too often, this important core goal gets lost in the excitement and energy of well-intentioned and important activities like charity runs and purchasing color-coded cancer awareness merchandise. Moreover, these two months are often seen as mutually exclusive, with women primarily only talking to women about breast cancer, and men barely talking about prostate cancer at all.
