Cancer is no longer a death sentence. That is what can be concluded from the ‘Annual Report to the Nation” by The American Cancer Society (ACS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Cancer Institute (NCI), and the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR).
Looking at cancer incidence and survival rates, the study found that while the incidence of cancer remained the same (and actually declined in men), survival rates improved. Five-year survival rate for all cancers was 50.3% in 1975-1977 and that jumped to 66.4% in 2006-2012.
