About COA (Community Oncology Alliance)
Established in 2003, the Community Oncology Alliance (COA) is a 501© (6) non-profit organization, advocating for cancer patients and their oncologists. More than 84% of cancer patients are treated in a community cancer center, and the Community Oncology Alliance’s mission is to speak on their behalf. COA was founded by community oncologists in response to the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003, which planned cuts to oncologist reimbursements, a move that ultimately negatively affects patient care. Serving as a resource for both patients and the dedicated professionals who serve them, COA members are physicians, nurses, practice administrators, and billing managers.
In only seven years of existence, COA has mobilized community oncology cancer centers from across the United States to become more politically active and increased awareness on Capitol Hill about the crucial role played by community cancer care centers. United together through COA, community cancer centers now have a forum in which to share information from their individual communities, enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the cancer care they provide to their patients.
Currently, COA is working with Congress in providing proactive solutions designed to protect the viability of the nation’s cancer care delivery system and patients’ access to quality, affordable cancer care.
COA’s Mission Statement
